How to Invest in Web 3.0

Web 3.0 is filled with the most recent development in the web-based world 👩‍💻. It’s so new that it doesn’t even have a concrete definition, but we do know that web 3.0 provides an exciting opportunity for both consumers and investors, integrating everything from machine learning and artificial intelligence 🤖 to augmented reality and blockchain technology. Of course, this can all be monetized, so many forward-thinking folks are already learning how to invest in web 3.0.

As Web 3.0 develops, we will figure out for sure which businesses and sectors will be the main winners 🏆. However, based on what we already know, this is how to invest in web 3.0 right now to potentially pad your wallet.

Investing in Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

One of the most popular categories of investment opportunities in web 3.0 right now is non-fungible tokens or NFTs 🤑. These tokens are digital representations of unique goods that aren’t fungible, or interchangeable.

NFTs are especially prevalent for visual artists. One of the more notable artists in the NFT space, Beeple, earned a staggering $69.3 million 💸 from the sale of his digital artwork “Everyday — The First 5000 Days” in March 2021! Later in 2021, another NFT project sold for even more: $91.8 million. The NFT business is booming overall, increasing from $8.07 million to $4.8 billion between 2021 and 2022.

However, NFTs do extend outside the art space. Avatars that can be employed in the metaverse are also in-demand NFTs. In fact, part of the NFT fervor is due to the fact that NFTs will likely be extremely useful in Web 3.0. NFTs can be used as “proof of ownership” 🤩 because they are singular, non-replicable objects; you can think of them as a form of money in the metaverse.

Investing in the Metaverse

The universes created by web 3.0 are collectively referred to as the “metaverse.” It’s basically an alternate universe that will (in some respects) resemble our own world. Numerous big-name companies are already vying to enter the market. The matriarch of social media, Facebook, made a huge splash 🌊 when it recently changed its official corporate name to “Meta Platforms” to reflect this transformation.

The metaverse is structured through a combination of digital building blocks such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence 🤖, social media platforms, virtual reality, and other technologies. The interactive, high-tech online gaming industry already offers something similar; just think of Fortnite! However, the metaverse differs from the current form in that it creates entirely new digital worlds.

How Investing in the Metaverse Works

Meta is such a broad category in and of itself that there isn’t really one way to invest in it. For now, companies like Meta (formerly Facebook) provide the simplest method to participate in the industry.

Purchasing “land” 🏠 within the metaverse itself is a more direct method to enter the metaverse financial engine. Investors can purchase parcels in this digital world through sites like “The Sandbox, and prices are already going up. According to CNBC, the average real estate tract cost rose from $2,620 (October 2021) to  $11,042 after Facebook announced its rebranding.

Land in the metaverse 💻 follows the classic real estate adage “location, location, location 🏘,” just like in the physical world. For instance, one fan paid $450,000 in December 2021 to buy land next to Snoop Dogg’s plot of land in the metaverse. Land in the metaverse is, of course, totally hypothetical at this stage, and only time will tell if values increase more or eventually lose all value. However, plenty of people are getting in on the ground floor already.

Investing in Crypto

Although many market participants would refer to cryptocurrency as speculation rather than smart investments 💰, it is also possible to use it as a pure investment platform. If you think that Web 3.0 will lead to new worlds, it’s completely likely that Bitcoin will start to be used more frequently in digital markets.

There are currently thousands of cryptos accessible. Some people think these currencies, based on blockchain platforms and traded in international marketplaces, could prove to be promising areas for investment. One market hypothesis holds that a few top coins will eventually demonstrate their utility and stability and rise to the top, becoming the final survivors in the crypto world  ðŸ‘Œ . If you invest in one of those now, it could pay off big time later 😱.

Investing in the Future of the Internet

Although many developers, investors, tech giants, and futurists are enthusiastic about web 3.0’s development, there is no clear road map for where web 3.0 road will lead. Just think of the early years of the internet, when it was only a means of communication and information sharing with only text 🤳 and black screens. Who could have predicted that in a few decades, people would be working entirely from home and some of the largest companies would operate exclusively online?

Web 3.0 has the potential to open up a whole new universe 🌌 of investment opportunities, even though it might not become as integral to daily life as the current internet is. NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and direct investments in the metaverse are fantastic places to start if you want to invest early. Just be aware if your option is a good ground for investment, don’t invest more than you can afford to lose, and talk to your financial advisor before making any decisions.
